Univserity of Victoria Website Design

For over 3 years I worked on contract at the University of Victoria creating the HTML and CSS code that was needed to make this beautiful design a reality on the web. The original site was designed by an in house designer of the Communications Department, and I was hired to create the website based on her mockups.

After completing the large project I was then challenged with making the sites for the campus’ individual units, faculties and departments. This was actually a larger project than creating the code in the first place, and my first real look at project management for a large institution!

Some facts about the uvic.ca code

All the code was created to be valid code by the w3c. This means that the code has the best chance to handle future development of browsers and be used by people with accessibility difficulties. The code had to work on Internet Explorer 6! This was a monumental task. It’s hard making the modern components and use fresh, modern design when you are working to make it appear exactly the same in a browser that was created in 2001!
